Complimentary transportation will be provided to and from the Main Admission Gate. This shuttle bus ride should take 25 minutes depending on traffic. Can you drop spectators off near the course???
    I know folks coming from Virginia Beach VA and they are staying with friends in Massapequa….can someone just drop them off instead of going to the Jones Beach parking lot?
    thanks

  2. admin says:

    Good Question Jennifer… Here’s what I found:

    Passenger, Taxi and Limousine drop-off will be allowed only at the designated area off of Winding Road, (accessed via I495/Long Island Expressway), in close proximity to the Hole 15 Admission Gate. There is no parking or standing, so please coordinate pickup times accordingly. Due to traffic restrictions, access is limited to vehicles no larger than a 15-passenger van or limousine. Please follow signs to the appropriate drop-off location.

    Winding Road on Google Maps

  3. admin says:

    More info about Drop-off:

    Local residents wishing to be dropped off at the championship should utilize the taxi/limo/passenger drop area, located at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy on Winding Road. Vehicles (15-passenger and smaller) should access this location via Interstate 495/Long Island Expressway, taking the Round Swamp Road exit. Vehicles will travel south on Round Swamp Road, turning left (east) onto Bethpage Sweet Hollow Road and then turning right onto Winding Road.

    is it worthwhile to do a day trip from upstate new york given the traffic? i live about 180 miles away. when do shuttles take you back to jones beach? what would traffic be like leaving long island say between five and seven o’clock? thanks.

  5. skto says:

    do you need to park at Jones Beach and take the shuttle for the practice rounds also? or is that just for the actual tournament?

  6. admin says:

    @Joe Flanagan

    It’s definitely worthwhile. It’s the US Open! Here’s what I suggest… limit your driving. Don’t drive all the way out to LI, it’s gonna be messy. Traffic is difficult during ‘normal’ summer afternoons.

    Drive somewhere that can connect you to the LIRR… Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, Penn Station NYC or perhaps a MetroNorth stop.

    At the end of the day, you get an hour or so on the train to rest after a day at the Open.

    I may be biased, I wouldn’t miss the Open at Bethpage.

  7. admin says:

    @skto

    You’ll need to park at Jones Beach for the practice rounds. Or, you can take public transport.

  8. Dawn Mahlstedt says:

    I am going tomorrow, Monday. What are the shuttle hours from the beach (especially when is first shuttle) and what field. It seems very difficult to find out information. Also, I was driving north on Route 110 in Farmingdale the other day, and there were signs pointing north to U.S. Open Parking. I don’t know what that was about. Very confusing. :(

  9. admin says:

    @ Dawn Mahlestedt

    The grounds open at 6am; so I assume that shuttles start at or just before 6am. That said, I haven’t seen any specific information.

    Regarding the parking: Jones Beach Fields 3, 4 and 5 will be set up for US Open parking. There will be plenty of signage along the way.

    Not sure about the signs on Route 110, hopefully everything will be sorted by tomorrow.

  10. Jeff says:

    The signs on RT 110 and elswhere are for permit parking. Probably for the corporations that have tents set up. The only parking for the commoners is at Jones Beach. Personally, instead of driving the wrong way to Jones Beach, I may take the train from Hicksville to Farmingdale. It’s $10 rt, but probably worth it.

  11. mike says:

    Speaking from experience, as I’ve attended the 2004 and 2006 Opens at Shinnecock and Winged Foot, respectively, the shuttle system works very well. They have a pre-arranged route with police/secuirty along the way to give priority to the buses. No waiting. The buses get under way around 6:15-6:30 AM. In 2006, we were walking the course by 6:45AM.

    I’m not sure sure how late they run but both years we’ve left around 6:30 PM. I think they’ll run to at least 8:00 probably 9:00. But ask, they’ll let you know.

  12. john says:

    if there a fee for taking the shuttle to and from the us open?

  13. admin says:

    No Fee. It’s free.

  14. john says:

    is there a fee for parking at jones beach for the us open?

  15. Theresa says:

    Do you have directions to permit parking lots? I believe we have a pass for lot D.
    Thx

  16. Nicole says:

    Parking at Jones Beach is free, there’s like 45,000 spots there. Shuttles run until 9pm. But it’s a little bit of a drive, and in a shuttle bus making it even longer. I live right next to the Golf Course in Bethpage. There are a few people selling parking ($30-$50) on their driveways in the neighborhood over here, making it a mile or so walk to the park, some providing a ride there too. If anyone’s interested in that, I could provide a space or two, and give you a ride to the entrance. (516) 322-0349.

  17. Tim Stark says:

    I would like to know the best directions from ct.

  18. Kerrie says:

    If using the Dorp off location on Winding Road, where do you get picked up? Same spot?

  19. admin says:

    @Tim Stark

    Take 95 south to the Throgs Neck Bridge and follow the directions above.

  20. roger says:

    anyone have suggestions on where to meet up with friends once inside the park since no phones allowed? In other words, are there pre-assigned meeting points? Thx.

  21. admin says:

    @mike

    Grab a map before hand and pick a spot. Here’s a link to the USGA’s Spectator Guide (pdf) – map is on page 2.

    One to consider, the public phones between the first green and the 17th hole. Another good option is one entrances to the hospitality tents. Even if you can’t get in, it’s a specific spot on the course. Last thought, use your voice mail to leave messages for one another utilizing the public phones that are on course.

    I also suggest you have a back up plan… perhaps an hour later & at the end of the day.

  22. terri says:

    You cannot park on streets that are very close to Bethpage Park as these need RESIDENT PARKING STICKERs, but many people are “selling’ their driveways for approx $50 and then you may have to walk a mile or two.
    Main Roads are closed…walking is inner access only directly across street from main entrance.

  23. admin says:

    This just in from the USGA…

    2009 U.S. OPEN TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING PLAN UPDATE

    Due to Thursday’s storm and recent rainfall at the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage State Park, parking lots D, F and R will be closed Friday and for the remainder of the championship.

    Because of the closures, championship patrons with parking passes for Lots D and F and volunteers with parking passes for Lot R should proceed to general spectator parking areas at Jones Beach to access complimentary shuttle buses to Bethpage State Park. General spectator shuttles begin at 5:30 a.m. Shuttles for early-shift volunteers are also scheduled.

    Gates open at 6 a.m. and starting times are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.

  24. mark says:

    I live 5 minutes from bethpage state park what is the easiest mode of transportation to course.

  25. admin says:

    @mark

    Take a look here… I suggest you get a ride – cab, mom, rickshaw.

  26. terri says:

    There is some parking in Farmingdale that does not require street parking permit, but would be a bit of a walk….So If anyone needs to be dropped off in the front entrance of Bethpage State Park for US OPEN on FRIDAY…
    Give me a CALL

  27. Joanne says:

    We have a parking pass for the Polo Grounds Parking area, how do we get there?

  28. admin says:

    @Joanne

    Do the Polo Grouds have a Lot letter or number associated with it?

    Here’s what I dug up… Take the NY135/Oyster Bay Expressway to Exit 8 (Powell Ave/Bethpage/Bethpage Park) and follow the signs for U.S. Open merchandise/ticket sales parking.

  29. felix sandker says:

    Need a car service to us open call 917 723 8563

  30. CCMAC says:

    I’ve heard of drop off spots on the LIE where you can be picked up from a shuttle? Is anyone familar with this?

  31. dan says:

    Can u park overnight ?

  32. mary says:

    I have found that there is a lot of pritvate residential parking for a fee on Manchester Drive and the surrounding area. Right off 135 at Powell Avenue., make a left off powell and a right onto Manchester. They are shuttling as well.

  33. ed says:

    Hi, im coming from rhode island and after I drive to a certain point i would like to take public transporation (lirr?) Where do i get on, how much does it cost and how close does it take me to the course?

  34. admin says:

    @dan

    I haven’t seen anything about this… My gut tells me that you cannot park overnight.

    May I ask… where would you sleep?

  35. admin says:

    @ed

    Are you driving back on Sunday? I suggest getting a hotel in NYC and leaving from Penn Station. Get a night on the town in NYC. Let me know if you do, I have some suggestions about where to eat and drink.

  36. terri says:

    Call 516-448-7531 For parking permit near LIRR (for shuttle to US OPEN shuttle bus) for SUNDAY or MONDAY….you could leave car overnight too if wanted.

  37. nicole says:

    I posted a few days ago that I live right next to the Golf Course in Bethpage. Over here people are selling parking ($30-$50) on their driveways, making it a mile or so walk to the park, some providing a ride-some not. So far I’ve had several people from this site park at my house. And I still have space available if someone else is interested in this option. (516) 322-0349. (and just so you know I’m able to bring you right up to the main entrance because I’m a resident, which is much closer than the taxi/limo drop off).

  38. tim says:

    from new haven….metro north to grand central…go to penn station and take lirr to farmingdale stop..then there will be shuttle/bus to the course? does that sound right?

  39. admin says:

    that’s a good route.
