Middlebay Country Club will play host to the first annual Stop Texting & Driving Golf Outing. Participants can expect a fun filled day that includes a food and beverages throughout the day – including breakfast and lunch. A silent auction and raffles will be held at dinner. Antrelle Rolle and Carl Banks will be donating (2) signed balls each to be auctioned off for this worthwhile cause. I caught up with Christine Degen (CD), the event’s coordinator, to discuss the details of the outing and the organization.
LIGN: What’s the mission of Texting Awareness Foundation?
CD: Our goal is to make the public aware of the dangers of texting and driving. We are committed to informing the public daily of the possible legal and physical (body and property) ramifications that are involved with this practice. Our “Remind You” campaign is designed to… reduce accidents simply by making the public aware of these dangers.
We conduct fundraising drives in order to fund our efforts of informing the general public about the dangers of texting and driving. We have produced videos, informative print ads and infomercials to use in this endeavor. As well, we are in the midst of placing “Signs to remind you” on the on the roads, in our schools and in the work place.
LIGN: Are you a national or locally focused organization?
What are the details of the golf outing?
CD: We are offering many levels of sponsorship. You can preview all those levels in our PDF. In terms of playing, we are asking for $325 for a great day of golf in support the organization.
LIGN: How will the money donated be spent?
CD: The money will be spent going into local highschools. We hold one hour seminars throughout Nassau and Suffolk High schools and driver education classes on the dangers of texting and driving and distracted driving. We educate our teens and new drivers. We also would like to purchase road signs starting on LIE and on major highways to remind people not to text and drive.
