News Day announced the 2010 All Long Island High School Girl and Boys Golf Team. Congratulations to everyone named.
2010 ‘All Long Island’ First Team Girls:
Julie MacDonell, Sayville, Senior – After coming in second in the county tournament and leading Sayville to a Long Island championship, the Harvard-bound MacDonell defeated Suzie Lee by two stokes to win the state tournament.
Suzie Lee, Commack, Senior – After two straight state championships, Lee narrowly missed a third by two strokes but did win a fourth straight Suffolk championship.
Samantha Sessa, Garden City, Eighth-grader – Won the Nassau Tournament, had a top-30 finish at states, and helped bring a fifth straight Nassau team championship to Garden City.
Elizabeth Choi, Syosset, Seventh-grader – Came in third at counties and led Nassau at the state tournament by shooting a 159 (82-77) to finish tied for 11th at the age of 12.
Isabelle Galantino, St. Anthony’s, Junior – After a year away from golf, the CHSAA girls Player of the Year returned to win the individual and state tournaments and lead St. Anthony’s to a league title.
2010 Coach of the Year:
Tim Dillon, Sayville – Helped produce a county championship, Long Island championship, the girls individual state champion, and coached Suffolk to its fifth straight team state title.
2010 ‘All Long Island’ Second Team Girls:
– Erica Gambardella, Garden City, Senior
– Victoria Snak, Smithtown West, Freshman
– Jennifer Clinton, Sayville, Senior
– Michelle Rosenhouse, Half Hollow Hills West, Senior
2010 ‘All Long Island’ First Team Boys:
Christian Dolan, Islip, Senior – Two-time Golfer of the Year tied for ninth in state tournament and finished second in counties after shooting a qualifier record 7-under 65 in the first round.
Matt Lowe, Farmingdale, Eighth-grader – Became youngest county champion in Nassau history with a nine-stroke victory and helped lead Farmingdale to a Long Island championship.
Frank Amicizia, Kings Park, Junior – Came from behind for a one-stroke win in the Suffolk Tournament by making a 35-foot putt on No. 17 and a birdie on No. 18.
Kelly Shon, Port Washington, Senior – Had best finish for a girl in the boys Nassau Tournament after finishing second with a 7-over 149 and qualified for states for second time.
Griffin McQuilling, Chaminade, Junior – Swept the CHSAA individual tournament and the state tournament and helped lead Chaminade to an undefeated season for its third straight team title.
2010 Coach of the Year:
John Berardi, Farmingdale – His Dalers shot a county record aggregate score of 759 in the Nassau Tournament and defeated Kings Park in the Long Island championship for the second straight year.
